Three Safari helicopter builders won awards for their projects at the Sun n Fun fly-in, the company says. A black and tangerine Safari owned by Jimmy Benson, of Mehoopany, Pennsylvania, was honored with the Grand Champion Rotorcraft prize. Mike Smolek of St. Marys City, Maryland, was awarded Best Helicopter, and Al Rulton of London, Ontario, Canada (a former Grand Champion) received Outstanding Rotorcraft.
Also, Safari is offering a new trailer that may alleviate the need for hangar storage. Equipped with interior lighting and outlets, RV electrical connection, battery, remote-controlled winch, cabinets and toolboxes, the trailer puts a portable shop and hangar wherever you need it. When it is time to travel, your helicopter (and lots of gear) can go along. Loading and tiedown are easy for one person, Safari says.
The base price of $16,180 includes the front cabinets, winch, 110 electric service with RV plug and battery, outside lights, extended ramp door, finished interior and blade supports. Other options are available.
